Olivia Boyd

Forestry & Fire recruitment Program

Olivia Boyd is a rising second year at the University of Chicago studying Astrophysics, Environmental Science, and Art History. She was born in New Orleans shortly before Hurricane Katrina and raised there following a consequent temporary displacement. The burgeoning frequency of severe weather systems in the Gulf of Mexico coupled with New Orleans’s need for workable and dependable flood infrastructure developed her deep respect for natural power and a resolve to contribute to sustainable climate solutions. Her passion for the environment has led her across the Gulf south, Midwest, Southwest, and Northwest on professional and research endeavors— ranging in focus from levee soil integrity to light pollution to elk populations (to name a few). This summer, she is a Communication and Marketing Fellow for The Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program (FFRP), and she hopes that her involvement will bolster awareness of FFRP’s social justice and climate missions.
