Climatize
Partnerships Development
About the organization:
Climatize was born from the realization that traditional activism often lacked tangible change. After joining over 100,000 protesters at the 2019 Global Climate Strikes in Barcelona, we realized that once everyone went home, nothing would be different; if our best form of protest was cardboard signs, that was a glaring issue. From this observation, we came to understand that while many people view climate change as an urgent problem, they often feel powerless to make a difference.
At the same time, small and medium-sized renewable energy projects have historically been underfunded. Projects of this scale are not large enough to attract institutional capital, and they are often too large for community lenders who may not be familiar with renewable energy technology or economics.
To fill this funding gap, Climatize launched an SEC-registered impact investing platform that allows investors to fund renewable energy projects with as little as $10 while earning up to 10% interest annually—essentially, crowdfunding renewable energy projects.
Since launching in May 2023, Climatize has transformed nearly 1,000 everyday Americans into active stakeholders in the energy transition, facilitating over $4,600,000 in investments to fund 11 solar and battery projects. Examples include a community solar project that reduced electricity costs for a low-income community in Massachusetts by 10%, solar installations for a Shakespeare theatre and a synagogue battling rising energy costs in New Jersey, and solar plus battery storage for a rural chicken farm in Tennessee. Over their lifetime, these 11 projects are projected to avoid 22,150 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to 56,650,121 miles driven by the average gasoline-powered car (EPA, 2024).
This community-led approach to climate finance has democratized access to one of the largest wealth creation opportunities of our lifetime and created a channel through which local communities can drive systemic change with their dollars. The vision for this network is to fund over $1 billion per year of renewable energy projects within the next five years and achieve full global accessibility within ten years.
