About the organization: 

BIOSORRA, a disruptive carbon removal scale-up biochar company, is looking for an intern to join its team of innovators. BIOSORRA owns a patented pyrolysis machine that can convert biomass into biochar and energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing soil fertility for agriculture. We are looking to incorporate a part-time intern to support the management team in day-to-day operations, including but not limited to: fundraising, grant writing, and supporting sales, marketing, and operations teams.
We are the first scalable biochar producer in Kenya and we exist to support organic farming. We are backed up by several reputable organizations, including XPRIZE from Elon Musk Foundation. We have a young spirit and mature commitment towards our goals. We stick to our principles:

Position Description: 

- Reviewing R&D Designs: Evaluating and refining research and development designs aimed at launching the high nitrogen recovery biochar, Chartilizer™
- Trial Supervision: Overseeing the implementation of experimental trials to assess the effectiveness and performance of Chartilizer™ in various applications.
- Collaboration with NSF: Working collaboratively with the team on projects funded by the National Science Foundation, focusing on innovative approaches to biochar production and application.
- Designing Plans: Creating detailed plans for the NH3-loading unit and sourcing strategies for ammonia, including compiling relevant research materials to support decision-making processes.
Analyzing Test Results: Supervising and analyzing initial test results from the NH3-loading unit to ensure standardized production of Chartilizer™.
- Field Trial Research: Conducting research on field trial results for Chartilizer™, compiling findings, and submitting comprehensive reports.
- Operational Feasibility Reporting: Compiling an operational feasibility report that includes lab and field trial results, customer willingness-to-pay analyses, and qualitative assessments from six months of machine operation.


Desired Qualifications: 

- Educational Background: A degree in Soil Science, Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture, Biochar, or a related field, preferably from a reputable institution such as Cornell University under Dr. Prof. Johannes Lehmann's department.
- Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in research and development, particularly in biochar, soil science, or agricultural technologies.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret experimental data and assess the feasibility of new technologies and processes.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of trials and reports.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Innovative Mindset: A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving, with a passion for sustainability and environmental impact.
