Research Fellow for Forest Eye

Position Description: 

The Research Assistant will work with Research Group and the Northern Forest Campaign to support the Forest Eye program. Forest Eye is a deforestation tracking tool designed to identify old growth logging in the boreal and temperate forests of British Columbia, Canada. The role includes screening alerts coming in through Forest Eye using satellite images and GIS technology. The intern will be mentored in using imagery and maps to verify logging in pristine old growth forests. The process includes reviewing imagery, inputting data, and working with our digital campaigners to design communications around old growth forest loss. Forest Eye is an exciting new tool from Stand that creates data transparency and equity for the public on an issue that is important locally and globally.

Desired Qualifications: 

- At least a Bachelor's degree with focus on environmental science, resource conservation and/or related studies
- Keen attention to detail
- data collection and data entry experience
- good team player
- experience using GIS

Time Commitment: 15 hours/week
