Science Communication Fellow

About the organization:

Vesta is a marine CDR company with a mission to make a difference in the planet's climate goals. Vesta deploys carbon-removing sand made from the mineral olivine in coastal areas. This helps protect coastlines from erosion, removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and reduces harmful ocean acidity.

Vesta's process, Coastal Carbon Capture, has the potential to deliver durable gigatonne-scale carbon removal more cost-effectively and with higher energy efficiency than any other method.

Position Description:

This internship would has two primary projects:

- Communicating our approach effectively to stakeholders often requires condensing complex science into straightforward and relatable content. Over the years, we’ve evolved in how we talk about our projects and need to update our communications materials. By the end of the internship, the goal would be to have a 4-5 page messaging document covering the key messages for Vesta and addressing frequently asked questions.

- We are highly interested in a project deployment along the Texas coast. An important part of planning for this deployment is understanding the permitting landscape, including materials testing and understanding threatened and endangered species and critical habitats in the state. This project would involve analyzing federal guidance documents and permitted projects to create a roadmap for ecological assessments for a future project.

Desired Qualifications:

This position requires someone with a background in environmental sciences with a demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific information into relatable messages. Likewise, the candidate should be comfortable reading technical and scientific documents providing guidance on ecotoxicology testing. You don’t need to already be an expert in ecotoxicology, but you need to be willing and able to dive into technical documents.
