Baljit "Bava" Wadhwa

Climate Change Group, World Bank

Ms. Baljit Wadhwa possesses over 25 years of extensive experience in environment and sustainability operations and assessment. In 2018, she joined the World Bank Climate Change Group, where she has taken the lead in various important initiatives. These include overseeing the Bank's climate commitments reporting, climate and disaster risk screening, and climate finance indicators teams. Prior to her tenure at the World Bank, Baljit had a senior role in the Global Environment Facility Independent Evaluation Office. During her time there, she spearheaded evaluative work on cross-cutting and thematic subjects, notably focusing on private sector and civil society engagement. Additionally, she conducted country portfolio evaluations in multiple developing economies, actively working to enhance national evaluation capacities alongside country counterparts and national voluntary organizations of professional evaluators. Baljit's involvement with the International Finance Corporation's upstream Sustainable Business Advisory Services as the Results Measurement Lead further solidified her expertise. In this role, she provided valuable guidance to Program Leaders regarding results metrics and frameworks for projects engaging the private sector in various aspects, such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity markets, and labor and social standards.

Baljit's career also encompassed her capacity as a Senior Sustainability Analyst at Calvert Impact Investments, where she collaborated with the financial community. Her responsibilities involved reviewing the environmental, social, and governance performance of publicly listed domestic and emerging market companies. Baljit has also hands-on experience working alongside infrastructure industries, particularly in conducting stakeholder engagements and incorporating indigenous knowledge into environmental and socio-economic impact assessments for proposed energy, mining, and transportation projects.


She holds a Master of Environment Studies degree, with a specialization in biodiversity conservation, from the University of Waterloo, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Calgary. Baljit's commitment to professional development is supported through her acquisition of certificates in "Environmental Economics for Development Policy" from the World Bank Institute and "Climate Change Risks and Opportunities for the Finance Sector" from UNEP-FI. Furthermore, she is a LEED Accredited Professional recognized by the US Green Building Council. Ms. Wadhwa is also a former member of the River Network Board of Directors, where she launched the Board Sub-Committee on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
