About the Organization:
Solar Sister is an organization dedicated to empowering women and addressing energy poverty in last-mile communities by recruiting, training, and supporting women to become entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector. When empowered female entrepreneurs bring affordable, clean energy products to their communities, livelihoods are improved thanks to regular access to energy, and the effects of climate change are mitigated while CO2 emissions are reduced. Women gain footing on which to build a more equitable future for themselves and their families. Since its inception, Solar Sister has supported more than 11,000 women across Africa who have reached over 5 million people with life-changing renewable energy products
Fellowship Description:
The person in this position will work closely with both the Development and Communications Managers to support Solar Sister’s social media and donor outreach efforts. The person will gain experience in both communications and development from the early stages of planning public and targeted donor outreach strategies and in the execution of those strategies
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and update donor databases (e.g., Salesforce) to ensure accurate and timely tracking of contributions and engagement.
- Draft and schedule content for social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook) to promote Solar Sister’s impact and campaigns.
- Evaluate our social media presence and make suggestions on how we can grow our audiences, particularly Linkedin.
- Assist in project management for a variety of fundraising initiatives.
- Conduct research on prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors aligned with Solar Sister’s mission.
- Track Moves Management with donors and funding sources.
- Other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate within the last 2 years
- Passion for gender equity, sustainability, and global development.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Familiarity with fundraising, social media, and content management systems (Salesforce, Mailchimp, WordPress, Canva, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and across time zones as part of a global team.
Time Commitment: 30 hours / week
