Jeremiah Lemi Muia

Jeremiah Lemi Muia holds both BSc. and Master of Science degrees in Geology from the  University of Nairobi in Kenya where he has also previously taught as an assistant lecturer for Earth-Sciences. He is a PhD Candidate (Part-time) in Climate Change Science at the same institution. In 2012, not long upon completion of his Master’s training, he was appointed and is serving, albeit part-time, in the first Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)  Working Group of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change  (UNFCCC) within its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). His work entails reviewing of proposals/applications (from across the developing world-including China & India)  pertaining to climate change mitigation that is seeking formal registration for Certified  Emissions Reductions (CERs) commonly known as carbon credits in order to access climate finance/funding, under the auspices of the Kyoto Protocol. In 2013-2016 he served as the Chief Environmental and Water Services Officer at the County government of Machakos, Kenya overseeing an annual budget of US$20M. He is a 2018 Climate Fellow of the New York-based Echoing Green Foundation.
