Climate Corner: Are we choosing our own doom?

I often hear the question: "Are humans doomed?" The global rise in energy usage last year — predominantly from coal, oil and natural gas which account for a staggering 81% of our energy — doesn't bode well. Combusting these fuels emits carbon dioxide and methane, potent greenhouse gases accelerating the sauna-like heating of our planet. Yes, we need energy, but must it come from sources that compromise our very existence?
